New Business:
Tri-Health Quarterly Report
· March Madness Incentive Program went very well; over 193,000 minutes of exercise were logged. The basketball-themed program had everyone competing to be in the final four.
· 52 fitness surveys and 25 group fitness surveys were returned. Comments include good job to the staff, replace/add dumbbells, ban cell phones, this is a value, add an indoor golf net, add more spinning bikes (an additional bike has been purchased), add a walking track, add weekend hours (on Sunday, January 7th, we began opening at 11am), various machines need repair (seats on bikes have been replaced, but unaware of any other repairs needed, no name given for follow up), additional weekend child care hours requested, and an indoor pool was also requested.
· Information in the newsletter and on the website, regarding personal trainers, resulted in at least three people inquiring about hiring a Tri-Health trainer.
· The 3rd Annual Kids Fitfest was cancelled because of low sign ups; but Kathy intends to try the FitFest on Thanksgiving weekend when families are home and kids need to expend energy.
· Prevention Wellness class, regarding setting goals and breaking barriers, was cancelled because of low sign ups.
· Health History Forms need to be updated each year. Tri-Health staff will contact people on or about their birthdays to remind them to stop by and review their health history form.
· Group Classes - The Tuesday evening muscle class was cancelled because of low sign ups. Spinning/Pilates Fusion class was also cancelled but this class will be back in the fall. Consider adding a Pilate’s beginner class for one session so people can learn the basics. Yoga Fit is currently being explored as a new class.
· Shawn Yockey has been added to the fitness staff.
· During Kathy’s maternity leave, current staff will cover most hours; a substitute may only be needed occasionally. Responsibilities/duties are being reviewed for each staff member.
Patio Reservation Form:
· Reserving the patio does not include access to amenities within the Recreation building.
· This area will be a NO SMOKING area.
· Residents may reserve the patio area up to six months in advance. Only a security and damage deposit of $100 will be required one week before the reservation date.
Kristen Maiden’s request for commission support to ask Council for a resolution supporting SAY soccer’s sportsmanship program:
· The sample provided has good intent, but will it do anything? Evendale is already on the leading edge for this type of philosophy. Is SAY requiring the passage of the resolution? (No) Commission would like further details – why is it necessary? Is there a purpose or need to this resolution? (No)
Old Business:
· Tri-Health March Report as shown in Commission packet.
Brent continues to become more active with our members.
Director’s Report:
· Boy Scout Pack 72 is hosting a Duke Energy electric demonstration in the south gym tonight at 7:00pm.
· The installation of two funbrellas at the pool will happen this spring; prospective locations were discussed.
· Nothing new has developed with the trails project. David did meet with Jim Bothe, Public Works, and Chris Schaefer, Councilman earlier this week. They investigated a prospective trail from Gorman Heritage Farm to Inwood Drive.
Phi Lambda Pi Report:
· 48th Annual Awards Night was held in March. Another fun and successful evening, even though they had low attendance; lazer tag and a movie followed.
· Other March events included various gym and outdoor games, a green Jell-O slurping contest for St. Patrick’s Day and a night time egg hunt.
· Six members volunteered at the Egg-Stravaganza Party and Evendale Elementary School’s Fun Fest’.
· Myrtle Beach trip only has a few spots available; Gatlinburg trip reservation deadline is May 9th.
· August brings the return of Rock the Dale concert event at the Pavilion.
Open Discussion:
· Egg-Stravaganza was held on Sunday this year; the event had a nice turn out.
· The 21 & Over Adult Egg Hunt was also a fun event with approximately 70 people attending.
· Wayne thanked everyone for their well-wishes during his recent recover from a fall.
· Ursaline Academy Diving Club needs a place to practice three evenings a week this summer. The evenings are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:30-9:00pm. It is a small team; at least three members are residents. Diving boards would not be exclusive to the team; anyone getting in line to dive is welcome, the coach would even critique the dive if the person asks. Commission does not have a problem with the usage; they just ask that Ursaline write a formal request letter and to check on liability.
· Soccer Trainer – Next year, we are hoping to find someone local; this will eliminate the problem of finding host families. In addition, the hope is to develop consistency in both trainer and training program from season to season.
· U-19 Co-Ed Soccer has a lot of non-residents on the team – This happened because not enough residents signed up by the deadline; Sharonville had the same problem, so the teams were combined. After which, more Evendale teens signed up. The coach is okay with a team of thirty kids; because usually, not everyone shows up for practices or games.
· David received VIP passes to Gorman Heritage Farm, which were given to Commission members. They will give the passes to families who may be interested seeing what the farm has to offer.
· Fees sub-committee will meet Friday, April 27th at 9:00am.
· Policy sub-committee will meet Tuesday, May 1st at 9:00am.
Motion to adjourn made at 9:11am by Michele Gottschlich; seconded by Gus Janszen. Motion approved.
